Leah Gingrich is the 30-year-old who took a 6-year hiatus and is now chasing an Olympic dream. Last summer at the 2019 Nationals, she hit a lifetime best in the 200 fly, her first PB in the event since 2008. Gingrich spoke with me about what she's doing to pass the time during the Covid-19 quarantine, and how she felt mostly relief when the announcement was made that the Olympics would be postponed.

We sat down with Austrian Olympic Felix Aubock, who just had a surprising performance at the 4-Nations meet in Budapest this past weekend. Aubock talks about where his life has taken him since quarantine started, ultimately ending up in his home nation of Austria currently. Aubock mentions that he's training with their high-performance group, and he's doing things in practice that he's never done before.

However, Kredich admits that when everyone is forced to stay home, even he himself has had his world turned upside down, and is realizing how much he relied on routine and sameness in his day-to-day.

Having to transfer schools because the swim team got cut is emotional and difficult; Ben Gingher is doing it for the second time in his NCAA career.
Gingher started his collegiate career at Eastern Michigan, initially making a verbal commitment in November 2016. After one full season at EMU, the program got cut, so he transferred to East Carolina, where he swam for two seasons until this past May when the school announced they were cutting the men’s and women’s teams. Now, Gingher is heading to Youngstown State in Ohio with one final year of eligibility left.

National Teamer Emily Escobedo has been one of the few fortunate ones to still (as of the time of this interview) have access to a pool - an infinity pool. While she admits it isn't ideal, she is grateful she has a place to swim and at least maintain her feel for the water. Outside of swimming, she's been indoors as much as possible, and trying her hand at cooking more with the free time - or as she refers to it, preparing.

She talked about age-group swimming, making the transition to Dave Salo after her freshman year at USC, and training with breaststroke champions Jessica Hardy and Yulia Efimova. When I talked with Lia Neal, she was at her parents' house in Brooklyn, at the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Luckily, they don't have to go outside much, and while she makes grocery runs, her home does a lot of the cooking. Lia talked about her new YouTube channel, where she has been posting weekly vlogs in which you can get to know her as a person, not just a swimmer.
