Saturday Jul 25, 2020
Saturday Jul 25, 2020
Ashley Twichell is a swimming veteran, and one who is put into a place that most other athletes weren't by the Olympic postponement. Twichell had already made the Olympic team in open water, and was also gunning for a spot in the pool as well. When I spoke with her, Ashley talked about the importance of recognizing how the postponement affected you, and the feelings that were brought up. As she says, we are all affected by it differently, and that's ok.

SwimSwam Podcast: Jason Pullano on How to Gamify Swimming
Saturday Jul 25, 2020
Saturday Jul 25, 2020
I sat down with Jason Pullano, a high school swim coach in the Dallas area who has been utilizing his time creatively during quarantine to try to keep his swimmers as engaged as possible. Pullano is also a teacher, and what he's noticed from his peers during the COVID-19 shutdown is that if they aren't using alternative methods to keep kids' attention in online classes, the participation rate plummets. So Pullano has started creating ways to gamify daily life, from learning to swimming.
In this podcast, that comes in the form of Jason turning a swim workout into a game of Super Mario Kart. He has an entire spreadsheet for how it works; it might be worth it to watch the video on our YouTube page.

We sat down with Bobby Guntoro, who was officially the Associate head coach at NC State until Wednesday morning when he announced he'd be taking the head coach position at his alma mater, UNC Wilmington. Bobby shared some of his favorite memories from his 8 years in Raleigh, and what made NC State so special. My personal favorite was how he and Ryan Held handled the fall of 2018 after Held had had an off nationals and not made the Pan Pac team.

SwimSwam Podcast: Caeleb Dressel Challenges Himself to Say No
Wednesday Jul 22, 2020
Wednesday Jul 22, 2020
Olympic and World Champ Caeleb Dressel took some time out of his busy day to let us know what he's spending his quarantine doing. Dressel is one of the few who is still able to swim on a daily basis (as of when this interview was conducted) at a pool in a neighboring town, for which Dressel is grateful. But even though he might not be pushing it to the max in the pool, Dressel isn't taking a break.
Training is Dressel's favorite part of swimming; he loves the grind. So one thing he's doing to challenge himself (besides doing "Core-intine workouts") is challenging himself in numerous ways to say no. He's seeing how disciplined he can be in numerous aspects of his life, from phone time to diet to sleep.
If you want to get to know a more personal side of Caeleb Dressel, check out his podcast with former Florida swimmer Ben Kennedy here.
