Kyle Chalmers Breaks Down Historic 44.84 100m Free World Record

While competing on day 2 of the final FINA World Cup stop in Kazan, multi-Olympic medalist Chalmers blasted a time of 44.84 to not only stand atop the podium here but also stand atop the list of fastest men ever in the event.

His time overtakes the previous storied World Record of 44.94, a time Frenchman Amaury Leveaux put on the books over a decade ago in 2008. Since then, many have come close, including Russia’s Vlad Morozov who hit 44.95 in 2018 but the record stood tall…until tonight.

We sat down with Timmy Hayes, Scot Robison, and Kyle Shoemaker, the 3 co-founders of Nica Nadadores in Nicaragua. Nica not only teaches kids how to swim and gives them an outlet to train in the pool, but it also helps them out of the pool with their education via scholarships and opportunities for better schools. Timmy, Scot, and Kyle each discuss their swimming backgrounds and what brought them to this project as well as how it has impacted their lives and the lives of those in this community.

Jim Bolster on Being 3-Sport NCAA Athlete, Coaching Columbia Men for 38 Years

We sat down with Jim Bolster, the head coach for the Columbia men's team (who we recently filmed a Practice + Pancakes with) who is in his 38th season at the helm. Bolster boasts a very athletic background, being 1 of 14 and growing up with access to the Princeton athletic facilities. He was a 4-time letter athlete in swimming, soccer, and lacrosse at Denison University, winning an NCAA DIII title in the 200 fly and going to the NCAA tournament in soccer. He then started competing in triathlons, where he had success for 20+ years as a masters competitor. Bolster speaks on his philosophy on staying active and what that has taught him about coaching along the way.

Sims also talks about crying before all of her races, less-than-ideal open water swims, and not realizing that prelims swimmers got medals too.
